חבוט הקברShaking of the Grave

chibbut ha-keverIn Gamatria ↗

Death shakes out the oldest dust from the cloak.

The serpent's filth entered every soul through Adam's sin. Repentance removes the stains of one's own sins, but that first filth is removed only by death. After burial, four angels widen the grave, return the soul to the body and shake it with fiery rods, the way one shakes dust from a cloak, until the klippah separates. The righteous, already worn down by Torah and suffering, need only a light shake. Each person has a holy name and also a name in the klippah, and the wicked are beaten for not having learned that hidden name in life, when they could have repaired it easily. Someone buried on Friday from the fifth hour on is spared.
