Some arrive for the first time; some only for the first time again.

There are grades of soul. 'Truly new' souls were never included in Adam. Below them are souls that stayed in Adam after the sin, then those he passed on in his lifetime to Cain and Abel (new 'in a certain sense'), then those that fell into the klippot, which are 'old' even when they come for the first time, and last, converts' souls. A truly new soul can attain everything from Asiyah up to the highest neshamah of Atzilut in its first life, and it does so easily. A Cain-and-Abel soul can reach only up to a nefesh of Atzilut, and only with great effort.
