Each feather a family; each short hair a brief and finished life.

Abel is Adam's right shoulder (chesed) and Cain his left (gevurah). After the sin, the Da'at of Zeir Anpin dropped down between the shoulders, which lessened the light of these souls. In Atzilut the shoulders are called wings. Cain's left wing has 3,000 feathers, each holding 150 sparks, and the short hairs on a feather are souls of children who die young. Because gevurot are revealed early, the best Cain-souls can see more than Abel-souls (R. Akiva grasped what was hidden from Moses), and in the future the Cain-root will become the priests.
