פעמים שלש עם גברThree Times, or a Thousand

pe'amayim shalosh im gaverIn Gamatria ↗

Three turns for the one who never tries; a thousand for the one who began.

A nefesh that repairs nothing returns at most three times, after which it is 'cut off' (karet). This applies only to the nefesh, which is sunk among the klippot, and not to ruach or neshamah. If it has begun to repair even a little, it may return 'up to a thousand generations'. A righteous person who studied Torah is not judged in Gehinnom, so he must clear each sin through further lives, while the wicked are cleansed at once in Gehinnom. After three solitary returns, the next three come 'with a man', meaning a righteous soul joins to guide him.
