No light in the cluster is whole until the faintest one is.

All the sparks of one small root (the book's example is the left 'heel' within Cain's shoulder) count as one great soul, and each is guarantor for the others. If one spark is damaged, the whole cluster is diminished; none of them, even one like the prophet Samuel, is called complete until the lowest spark is repaired. That is why the perfected ones come down to help. Two living people from one root unknowingly envy and resent each other, each wanting to draw more from the shared source, but once they know they share a root, they will love each other. The departed of a root long for the success of their living kin.
